VERYNX Drop
Send a file straight to another device.
VERYNX Drop sends a file from one browser directly to another. Two devices pair with a one-time code, the file travels over an encrypted WebRTC connection, and the receiver checks it with SHA-256 before saving. No account, and nothing is stored on a server.
Why it exists
Moving a file between your own devices still too often means emailing it to yourself or uploading it somewhere. Drop moves it directly.
What was built
- One-time pairing codes: Ten-character codes from an unambiguous alphabet, single use, expiring after 10 minutes, with rate limits on guessing.
- Direct transfer: WebRTC DataChannel, 64 KB chunks with backpressure, progress on both screens.
- Both confirm the safety code: Both screens show a code derived from both devices' encryption keys. Each person confirms it matches; a mismatch on either side ends the connection, and the receiver refuses an offer that skips the step.
- Receiver decides: Once both people confirm the safety code, the receiver sees the name, size and type. Nothing is sent until it accepts.
- Integrity and safety: SHA-256 verification on arrival, never more than the announced size held in memory, sanitized file names.
- Honest failure: Cancel from either side, declined offers, expired codes, closed tabs, and interrupted or stalled connections are all detected and explained.
- Relay-ready: With a TURN relay configured, each session's two devices get their own short-lived credentials; the relay's secret never leaves the server.
Still in development
- No relay (TURN) server runs yet. Direct connections usually work on the same network; across different networks or strict firewalls Drop says plainly that a relay is needed.
- Not yet deployed to verynx.tech.
