SCR Studio

Video. Motion. Design. A local-first editor for Windows.

SCR Studio is a desktop editor for video, motion, design and presentations that works entirely on the machine it is installed on: no account, no network connection, no telemetry. It is the custom desktop editing suite from the creative software strand, now at release candidate 1.0.0-rc.1 for evaluation.

Why it exists

Editing tools tend to split into a beginner app and a professional app. SCR Studio is one application with one project model, one rendering model and one history: the slider a beginner drags is the same parameter a professional edits.

The problem

Creative work should not depend on an account, a connection or a cloud service, and a project file should never lose work or be silently guessed at.

What was built

  • Projects and media: Atomic saves, versioned project files with migration, validation and repair, autosave with crash recovery, import, relink and proxies.
  • Timeline: Place, overwrite, insert, trim, ripple trim, split, move and the Razor.
  • Design and motion: Text, graphics, design layers and animation in the same project.
  • Colour and audio: Colour adjustment as ordinary effect parameters, plus audio editing.
  • Captions and present: Captions and a presentation mode alongside video editing.
  • Export: Delivery renders that match the preview, never using preview proxies.

Still in development

  • The release candidate is for evaluation. It is not code-signed yet.
  • Licence obligations for the bundled media engine have to be met before public distribution.
  • Windows only, 64-bit.
